Baseball Rules & Regulations

NB Select 2021 Tournament Rules:

NB Select League Rules will be used in the following tournament.

1. Game Time: Starting time is forfeit time, unless there is a delay. Game time starts at completion of ground rules.

2. Home Team: First team listed in the bracket is the home team during pool play.  In single elimination round, the higher seeded team will be the home team.

3. Player Minimum: A team must start with a minimum of 9 players but can finish with 8, taking outs in vacated batting positions.

4. Championship Games: No time limit...run rules are still in effect.

5. Pitching Rules: No Pitching Restrictions.

6. Infield Warm-Ups: All teams are encouraged to warm-up as much as possible before game time. NO PREGAME INFIELD!!

7. Tie-Breaker System: If a game is tied after all innings have been completed (or at time limit), the "Tie-Breaker" will go into effect. Each team starts with bases loaded (put last 3 batters from previous inning on the bases, last batter at first base, 2nd to last batter at second base and 3rd to last batter at third base). Teams start inning with 1 out.  This happens until the tie is broken and the game is complete. Single Elimination Round Only!

8. Courtesy Runners: Teams have the option to use a courtesy runner for the catcher or pitcher at any point during the game. This runner has to be a player that is not in the line-up. If you have no players available on the bench, than you can use the last batted out from the previous inning.

9. Run Rules and Time Limit: 9U-12U: 1 hr 40 min time limit**6 innings** 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings & 8 runs after 5 innings. 13U-18U: 2 hr time limit**7 innings** 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings & 8 runs after 5 innings.  With regards to the time limit. It is NOT a drop dead time limit. No new inning can start after the time limit has been reached. If the home team is up to bat and is winning the game when the time limit expires the game will end at the point of time expiration. If you start an inning before the time limit, you must finish it. Time starts at the completion of the Ground Rules. The umpire is the only one that keeps the official clock. As soon as the 3rd out is recorded in the bottom half of the inning, the next inning officially starts. If there is still time left when the third out is recorded, the next inning will be played.

10. Seedings are determined by the following:

No Pools
1- A teams overall record (winning %, 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie) So a team that is 1-1 is the same as a team 0-0-2.
2- Runs Against then Runs Scored, in the 2 games. Runs Against in first pool play game, Runs Scored in first pool play game, coin flip.

3-If you have 2 teams with the same record then head to head is first tie breaker. If 3 or more teams have the same record then head to head is out.
